‘Biring’ it on!

JUST a little note to thank you for your article in StarMag on the Yusoff Ghani exhibition, Biring.

It was an insightful article that inspired me to visit the said exhibition.

I do hope that StarMag will continue to cover more stories of this nature. It is my belief that we need to encourage and support the arts in Malaysia as there is such depth of talent in our country that goes unrecognised and untapped.

Keep it up!

Canvassing for support

I WISH to extend my warmest regards on a stellar effort in highlighting the visual arts of Malaysia (Conflict on canvas, Arts, StarMag, April 1).

Although Yusuf Ghani needs no introduction in the gruelling world of art, articles like this serve as evidence of eventual success for aspiring artists in a nation where our art history is a little over 50 years.

That’s considered young if we look at our neighbours, but that is all the more reason why it is important keep a finger on the pulse. A country without art is likely to lose its humanitarian heritage.

While it is common to find corporations showing support, such gestures rarely make their way to the bottom of the pyramid. However with a maintained visibility in the media, young artists may feel less alone and slightly more inspired to keep the spirit.

In this respect, art becomes more accessible to more people.

People who are not anywhere near a gallery can settle for a peek at the world of art for a mere RM1.20. Small price to pay for culture, don’t you think?

Kudos, once again.  Marvin Chan Yew Soon,
