The machine that walks this earth

Everyday I see this construction machine (piler) when I commute to work and my studio. It’s there all the time, working, pounding away. All developers need this device to pummel the piles into the land to erect their buildings. There is a fine line between development and the environment. Between man and nature.  Where is the balance? I ask myself that question all the time so this painting captures the essence of that. I hope you can see that too.

Waiting for a better future, hoping for a better life

( Airasia-everyone can fly  has become a phenomenon in Malaysia. This is the LCCT and people are waiting, you see the little boy caressing  the glass door on the far left, hoping that the plane will land soon, will it ever come….has the waiting become the arriving. The process has become the end result?)

All things fast, past, shiny and glittery is not gold

(In this work, you see a shiny new car sandwiched in the middle of 2 classic ones. A Saab and a Jaguar. Don’t be deceived by new technology, its not necessarily better. The new car is on the stand all propped up needing work while the 2 old ones are sitting majestically idle ready to go!)

There is no certainty within the wheel of time.

( This painting was made in response to the invasion of Gaza by Israeli forces. The playground is empty. Where are the children, they should be playing and their laughter should be heard. The high saturated colors belies the grave nature of the situation in Gaza.)

3 buses (I kept my end of the bargain how about you?)

( This work shows the blue collar workers of Malaysia, regardless of race or religion, everyone travels to work in these ubiquitous buses. This is also the ‘sister’ piece to the work entitled 3 buses which was auctioned off at Chiristie’s Spring auction in Hong Kong 2008 for HKD 120000)

The urgency of inside looking out

(When we frequent Chinese restaurants we perceive them as non halal. This one is halal and there are many Malay customers. I have decided to paint this scene without being obvious by not having a single customer present. When we are inside we are judged by our outside/cover, never by our content.)

The beginning is the end the end is the beginning

( This work documents the daily trip that everyone has to make home after a hard day’s work. The sun is coming down,it is early evening and the rush hour traffic is at a crawl. Depending on how you want to look at it you could either get stressed by it or give in to it and enjoy the time you have ot contemplate your life. You could say that I have come a full circle back to the same sky as the ‘Heaven’ piece( After all these years) I have come back to the same point that I have begin 2 years ago.)
