Chong Choon Woon was born in Johor in 1972. He started studying art at the Malaysian Institute of Art and later was accepted into the acclaimed China National Academy of Fine Art. He also possesses a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Nanjing Normal University, China.

From an early age, Chong gained inspiration from the French Impressionists. His primary influence was the Swiss surrealist sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti. However,in his pieces, Chong combines oil paint with the bold sweepes of the Chinese brush, creating his own brand of fusion artworks. His paintings explore space relationships, presenting apparently common-place images at skewed angles to awaken the viewer to another perspective. This east-west approach to art and his unique style has won him the Oil Painting winner of Excellence Award from the esteemed Shanghai Art Museum.

In his search for artistic perfection, Chong has painted prolifically and has exhibited widely in key galleries in Malaysia, China and Taiwan. His works can be seen in the art collections of Siemens, Prudential Insurance and Berjaya Corporation as well as that of many serious collectors.

In addition to painting, Chong strongly believes in giving back to the arts and lectures in schools and universities across Malaysia, Singapore and China.

For the first time since his return to Malaysia, Chong Choon Woon has agreed to conduct a series of short art courses for adults at Wei-Ling Gallery. The courses are broken up into the fundamentals of drawing and painting and run over a course of several weeks.
